In all fairness Philip, this natural disaster requires a solution that is extremely innovative as the technology used to utilise this oil and gas reservoir deposit is pretty hi-tech. This means that no one has any past experience on how to deal with this and therefore there should be as many inputs as possible. As a recently graduated chemical engineer I would never be allowed to work on such projects as my knowledge base and experience in oil and gas is currently small and so using youtube in this way can help to put whatever ideas I can come up with across. It is the same way that all engineering governing bodies are meeting with their members in order to utilise knowledge from different industries and backgrounds. So although youtube are gaining from people using their service, they are using it in a way to get people to talk about current events and to get thinking about what can be done.
