So instead of using your Engineers and Coders/Programers to their full potential to keep YouTube fresh and running smooth, you've been using them to put frickin' letters on videos just for one day!
Jokes aside, does it really save bandwidth? Nope! The conversion is performed locally on your pc, therefore the original video is still downloaded! Don't believe me? Compare your CPU usage with TEXTp on and off.
Even though I knew it was an April Fools, I still checked it out. It's hilarious!
I'd love it if YouTube actually kept this option after April 1st, it's like seeing what the video would look like if played on some sort of ASCII game.
Some people really need to get a sense of humour, complaining about wasting time or money... it's pretty sad to think that's how their minds work on a day like this...

Instead of fannying around making this ascii video shite for april fools and the terrible new layout, how about improving the speed at which we stream videos? It's absolutely terrible. Having to wait 10mins for a 3minute 480p video to load on my 10mbit cable is not acceptable and it's been the case for months now
I wonder if all the bugs and faults on the site are also to do with April Fools. You need to sort out all the broken parts, and once its fixed leave it alone. For at least a couple of weeks now, youtubes been broken.

Probably, you continue to stream the video and we do all the translation locally... Is that true...? Because if you did the other way round it would save you a dollar of bandwidth and cost you 10 dollars of CPU power... :p
It's awesome. I'd REALLY LOVE it if youtube was to release a linux binary that does text only video streaming straight over the terminal using ASCII art. That would be cool, for the days when I'm being ignorant and insist on using a command-line only ubuntu. Hehehe might get working on a program like that with a mate just for a laugh, because there isn't a way (as far as i'm aware) of using youtube under linux.

How can youtube replace the rating system with either being liked or disliked? i find it is not often as clear cut as that and that there are different amounts i liked the video - hence stars = good idea like/dislike = facebook rip off and a rubbish idea for videos to be based on.
P.S. how many films do you see with like/dislike feature in ratings magazines? oh whats that? none? thought so...

I only used Youtube on the 1st to listen to a song, so when I put that mode on, I didn't really notice it much. Still, I liked the added little plead for saving money on it, and the bit that I quoted above just put the icing on the cake.
Come on, that mode was good. :P Keep it, even if only accessible via the address bar.
Also, an option to download video without sound would be helpful to save (personal) bandwidth (so that videos spend less time buffering when the soundtrack is just some random guy's favourite song at the time, more often than not unappealing).
