"For every person who selects TEXTp and keeps it on while you watch a video, you save YouTube $1 a second, resulting in potentially billions of dollars of savings for us. So if you care about YouTube, you’ll use TEXTp today."
ha ha, that sounds just like those spam chain messages that say hotmail are trying to clear up old addresses to save money, and if you don't forward this message to all your friends we will assume your account is no longer used and delete it.
So instead of using your Engineers and Coders/Programers to their full potential to keep YouTube fresh and running smooth, you've been using them to put frickin' letters on videos just for one day!
Jokes aside, does it really save bandwidth? Nope! The conversion is performed locally on your pc, therefore the original video is still downloaded! Don't believe me? Compare your CPU usage with TEXTp on and off.
Even though I knew it was an April Fools, I still checked it out. It's hilarious!
I'd love it if YouTube actually kept this option after April 1st, it's like seeing what the video would look like if played on some sort of ASCII game.
Some people really need to get a sense of humour, complaining about wasting time or money... it's pretty sad to think that's how their minds work on a day like this...
- i think there's great potential for litero-artistic expression here - or the challenge of creating images where the text also makes sense - or even a numero-artistic approach where only 0-9 are used - congratulations youtube on creating a new art-form -
Instead of doing features like this and making new layouts could u just fix the subscriptions box on the youtube homepage. Im talking about not being able to cross out videos from my subscriptions box which i do not want to watch!
the cool thing is that this is actually viable. i remember an australian university broadcasting the world cup (soccer) live over telnet a few years ago.
you may of taken away loads of things that made youtube good. but this is the best feature you ever came upw ith. i was gonna leave youtube till i heard of this option. please keep it forever
thirdly let all the videos on the wentire utube have this automatically and all the videos that are already uploaded. so lets say 23423423482334823842348482238428348 years of video plz. not much but lol
Instead of fannying around making this ascii video shite for april fools and the terrible new layout, how about improving the speed at which we stream videos? It's absolutely terrible. Having to wait 10mins for a 3minute 480p video to load on my 10mbit cable is not acceptable and it's been the case for months now
I wonder if all the bugs and faults on the site are also to do with April Fools. You need to sort out all the broken parts, and once its fixed leave it alone. For at least a couple of weeks now, youtubes been broken.
It's really cool...! But makes my CPU work on 100%... :(
Probably, you continue to stream the video and we do all the translation locally... Is that true...? Because if you did the other way round it would save you a dollar of bandwidth and cost you 10 dollars of CPU power... :p
It's awesome. I'd REALLY LOVE it if youtube was to release a linux binary that does text only video streaming straight over the terminal using ASCII art. That would be cool, for the days when I'm being ignorant and insist on using a command-line only ubuntu. Hehehe might get working on a program like that with a mate just for a laugh, because there isn't a way (as far as i'm aware) of using youtube under linux.
I've tried adding &textp=fool to any url and seems to work with all videos, even if it is an april fools joke it must have taken quite a bit of programming skill. Well done youtube great fun!
This is actually technically amazing for an April Fools joke. Will the feature be allowed to be implimented on URLs to work after today like what's been done with last year and the upside down stuff?
How can youtube replace the rating system with either being liked or disliked? i find it is not often as clear cut as that and that there are different amounts i liked the video - hence stars = good idea like/dislike = facebook rip off and a rubbish idea for videos to be based on.
P.S. how many films do you see with like/dislike feature in ratings magazines? oh whats that? none? thought so...
"You can also append &textp=fool to most video URLs to test it out."
I only used Youtube on the 1st to listen to a song, so when I put that mode on, I didn't really notice it much. Still, I liked the added little plead for saving money on it, and the bit that I quoted above just put the icing on the cake.
Come on, that mode was good. :P Keep it, even if only accessible via the address bar.
Also, an option to download video without sound would be helpful to save (personal) bandwidth (so that videos spend less time buffering when the soundtrack is just some random guy's favourite song at the time, more often than not unappealing).

“If you listen to your body, it’ll tell you when it's thirsty,” says Courtney Kipps, consultant sports physician and principal clinical teaching fellow of Sports Medicine, Exercise and Health and UCL, and medical director of Blenheim and London Triathlons.
Maybe, say experts. The timeless factors underpinning the one-year rule are still in place: on the employer side, an employee who stays at least a year is a better investment than one who doesn’t, and their loyalty is also viewed as a positive. On the employee side, staying for 12 months means time to pick up skills and competencies that are not possible to learn in just one business quarter.
“If a potential employer asks about past experiences that you know were not ideal, it’s better to keep the discussion diplomatic and focus instead on why you’re excited [about] this potential role or company,” says Sullivan. “What you bring to a job and why it excites you matters now and means more to a hiring manager than what you’ve left behind.”
But in general, there’s also not a lot of solid data that confirms which specific groups might be quitting. “The reality is, we don’t know [who’s making up the bulk of resignations],” says Klotz. “I’ve seen reports that it’s mid-career level people, I’ve seen reports that say it’s Generation Z, or ‘everyone’s retiring early, it’s the boomers’ – I don’t think we have a good idea of it right now.”
Although many of us associate overly ambitious workaholism with the 1980s and the finance industry, the tendency to devote ourselves to work and glamourise long-hours culture remains as pervasive as ever. In fact, it is expanding into more sectors and professions, in slightly different packaging.
Directed by Steven Spielberg at his most masterful, with a smartly-conceived screenplay by Tony Kushner and crisp new choreography by Justin Peck, the film honours the production's roots while giving it a 21st-Century sensibility. Full of energy, wit, passion and tragedy, looking backward and forward at once, it is one of the most moving films of the year.
Phil despises anything feminine, preying on his new sister-in-law and her lisping son, who crafts elaborate paper flowers in his bedroom. The only time Phil betrays any affection is when he tells reverent stories about his old mentor, the late Bronco Henry.
The emergence of several Westerns over the past decade by women directors might seem like a new phenomenon. But, as Shelley Cobb, associate professor of film at the University of Southampton tells BBC Culture, "Women have been writing and directing Westerns since the beginning of cinema. In the early decades [silent film director]
At the climax of the film, Brady is warned by his father not to take part in another rodeo for fear of incurring another injury. Brady lashes out in anger: "What happened to 'cowboy up, grit your teeth, be a man'?!" Zhao might as well be asking what it means to be a man today.
Then, of course, everything changes. A few notes of caution: this is the first Matrix film to be directed by Lana Wachowski without her sister Lilly, and two of the series' best actors – Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving – aren't returning. Still, the action-packed
Katherine Snedaker, founder of the non-profit campaign group Pink Concussions, believes that many like Jessica are “invisible patients” with an “invisible injury” – and that means that they may struggle to get the support they need.
Some studies have also used more objective measures of cognitive function, with one finding females were about 1.7 times as likely as males to show signs of cognitive impairment a few days after experiencing the concussion. This includes a much larger decline in reaction times. Concussed female athletes also tend to show greater deficits in visual memory (though not every study has been able to detect this difference).
The second idea that researchers have pointed to is some small anatomical differences within the brain itself. Female brains are thought to have slightly faster metabolisms than male ones, with greater blood flow to the head: essentially, they are slightly hungrier. And if a head injury momentarily disrupts that supply of glucose and oxygen, it could cause greater damage.
“If you focus too much on any kind of perceived or possible male-female divide, it might give this false perception that actually males are more able to withstand concussion [than they really are],” says Luke Griggs, the deputy CEO of Headway, a charity that offers support for the survivors of brain injury and their carers across the UK. Boys and men might believe they could return to play too early – whereas everyone, he emphasises, should be cautious following a concussion rather than trying to ignore their symptoms.
Moon and Me, it turns out, is a product of research, informed by a collaboration between the co-creator of the hit show Teletubbies – Andrew Davenport – and Dylan Yamada-Rice, a researcher specialising in children’s education and storytelling, to study how children interact with toy houses.
Those suffering from ‘expertise’ understaffing can often feel out on a limb, plugging gaps which go beyond their job description. Immediately after Catherine began her current role as a social media manager in Leeds, UK, she was thrust into project management by her boss in order to cover hiring delays. “I was given large projects to look after, despite my limited experience,” she explains.
Clothing was not always split along gender lines," explains Stevenson. "In feudal England, fashion followed class status and land tenure. Male and female dress across class stratifications was very similar. It was only through the breakdown of feudal society into a market society – where men started to dominate the workforce – that clothing shifted into male and female categories.
The word sari (or saree) comes from the Sanskrit word sati, which means a strip of cloth. It has a varying length of four to nine yards (3.6m – 8.2m); most saris are six yards (5.5m) long. The history of the garment goes back to the Indus Valley civilisation of around 3200 BC to 2000 BC, where people wore a long piece of fabric. The garment has evolved over time, especially during the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the country was under British colonial rule.
The Saree Room receives most of its orders from women between the ages 18-34, and a growing number of customers – about 18% – are from outside the south Asian community. Kassam notices that young south Asian people in North America are reviving vintage vibes with printed saris, a best-seller at her brand. As a young girl, Kassam recalls walking into her grandmother's closet and dressing up in her old floral saris. "I love the simplicity of wearing a printed sari. They are truly a timeless piece we can pass on to future generations," says Kassam.
As a student, she was hugely influenced by avant-garde German design school the Bauhaus, a life-long passion evidenced by the presence of a photo of its founder Walter Gropius in her office.
“Basically all of those cell types are impaired in their function,” says Birgit Weinberger, from the University of Innsbruck, who studies immunosenescence and vaccinations of the elderly. “They produce a different set of cytokines [proteins that aid communication between immune cells]. I think the important issue one has to keep in mind is that none of those cell types act on their own.”
learned several new words during my time in Shetland, the distant island chain drifting between Scotland and Norway. One of them was equinoctial. It means "of or relating to the equinox". It is frequently used to describe equinoctial gales, which can feel relentless this far north when the seasons change in spring and autumn. In a place as exposed to the elements as Shetland, they can be definitive; on its most distant island of Foula, they can act as a sort of gatekeeper.
It's there that Garda stands, a hulking three-pronged sea stack under constant attack from the ocean. The same is true nearby at the sensational Da Kame, the site of most of Foula's birds' nests. They have picked an exceptionally scenic spot; among the highest cliffs in Europe, this vast avian city looks especially dramatic at day's end when the sun's dying rays bounce off its mighty walls as waves crash in below.
On the journey, you also may hear of strange curiosities, persistent legends and peculiar laws. Like the supposed and disputed ancient decree that states in York it is perfectly legal to shoot a Scotsman with a bow and arrow from the city's crenellated walls. Except on a Sunday.
"In that pleasant district of Merry England which is watered by the river Don, there extended in ancient times a large forest… and the pleasant town of Doncaster," wrote Scott, and these words are stencilled high on the entrance hall wall inside the Danum, currently Doncaster's best portal to the mid-11th Century.
Right now, “there is less stigma attached to job-hopping or having shorter stints than in previous years”, says Sullivan. “The pandemic is a big factor, which caused many people to be out of a job, laid off or quit for many reasons ranging from caregiving to health and safety. Especially in the current tight labour market, hiring managers are more understanding about employment gaps or overall brief changes.”
In other words, we may only be seeing the Great Resignation through the eyes of those who have the privilege to quit, like top executives or financially secure workers. But the reality is that it’s hard to parse from the existing data which workers are quitting more and why, which can distort what’s really happening, and might encourage people to boldly quit and think everything will work out for them.
Importantly, workers need to avoid being swept into the hype, and be more thoughtful going forward when discussing the reasons more people are quitting, and what that means for the future of work.
A piercing chorus of cicadas reached my ears from the dense subtropical jungles as my car precariously navigated its way through the narrow road carved into the steep hills. Around a bend, a different tune floated across the valley – this one softer, melodious, almost eerie. A few more perilous turns later, the first houses of Kongthong came into sight, accompanied by more melodies wafting in the air as one villager called out to another.
Until recently, moving from the village to Shillong or other towns was practically unheard of in Kongthong, even though it only has education facilities to upper primary level. But recently, increasing numbers of youngsters have been leaving for higher studies and job opportunities, and many are losing touch with their traditions.
While the first single release Easy on Me offered familiar piano ballad territory, Adele's distinctly confessional, frequently wry songwriting weaves through nu-classic soul territory (My Little Love, where she addresses her young son, is devastatingly beautiful). It also takes in a pop hook-up with Max Martin (Can I Get It), a jazz interlude sampling piano great Erroll Garner, and nods to Carole King and Amy Winehouse (on the concluding Love Is A Game).
Recorded in the German-born singer's LA wardrobe during lockdown, it's a Daft Punk-inspired electro-house banger that harnesses the giddy thrill of a packed dance floor. "You're more than just anybody," she sings on the chorus. "Don't give up, the future starts now." Every time I hear it, I feel a little bit more alive. (NL)
Don't Shut Me Down materialised as a dual single release with I Still Have Faith in You; both new tracks evoked classic Agnetha and Frida harmonies, but this one strikes a particularly triumphant note, from the unmistakable melancholy of its opening scene through to the rousing chorus:
I never understood why he signed her in the first place because he hated disco music," he says. "He was a fantastic guy, but in my opinion he was totally the wrong person for her." Still, Bellotte says he didn't sulk for too long at the time because a track from the album, Romeo, later earned a "nice sum of money" for all involved when it appeared on 1983's hugely successful Flashdance movie soundtrack.
She could have sung it in her regular voice, but she went straight into her head voice," Bellotte recalls. "And that made it magical straight away, because she took the song so far away from the machine-driving beat. She really floated above it." Hervey says this kind of singing has influenced her work with Lion Babe, praising Summer's ability to "bring her dreamy and ethereal sensuality to hard-hitting beats".
"We don't need to see suffering for the funding to be released," says Sarah Klassen, Start Network's policy and advocacy advisor. "We really see anticipatory action as one of the practical ways that humanitarians can address and minimise loss and damage caused by climate change," says Klassen.
"In a few years, that ocean's probably going to take it away," says Ross. Other properties in the area are at risk of the same fate, he adds. The destruction is already happening. Ross has seen the wreckage of houses, once secure, lying scattered on the shore – violently dismantled by the sea.
Bobby remembers how his father used to notice the prevalence of certain species changing over time – such as certain insects that he'd never seen before beginning to appear around Kotzebue.
Scientists are becoming increasingly concerned that food-related content on social media is making us think differently about food. Social media algorithms promote content that users engage with more, so viewing more unhealthy food means seeing more of it on our social media feeds, Pancer says.
In the second part of the study, he told participants that their feelings weren't based on the food they were about to see, but on a low frequency, mood-boosting sound that was being played, one which wasn't detectable to humans, while a second group had no influence.
The Laguna Mountains skipper, for example – a one-inch-wide butterfly with dark brown and cream mottled wings – is found only in a small area of the Cleveland National Forest, around 30 miles away from the zoo. Or it used to be. A skipper hasn't been seen on the mountain of its name for over 20 years.
"The butterflies are the canary in the coal mine, you know," says Scott Black, executive director of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation. "We're going to see other butterflies and bees, and other important insects, and then our birds; and then our mammals head that same way if we don't take action soon."
For Mondavi, the lightbulb moment came with the widespread fires that hit the Napa Valley region in the last few years. "When the wildfires surrounded my family's farm in 2017, and burned a lot of my very good friends' homes and communities I realised: 'Holy smokes, unless we address climate change, what are we fighting for?' And so the really incredible thing about the tractor is it's a bridge away from our dependence on fossil fuel."
Arteta named an unchanged side following Arsenal's win over Southampton and his celebrations at full-time suggested he was happy once again with this performance, where a number of young players impressed.
She wrote: "As athletes, we are all socially programmed to be stoic with our pain, to bear our burdens and not complain, even when such stoicism reaches the point of stupidity and those burdens begin to damage us. These are hard habits to break. อ่านต่อเพิ่มเติม โรงเรียนบ้านนาเส
"In winter, when the peaks were covered with up to 6m [of] thick snow, avalanches [killed] many soldiers on the Austro-Hungarian side. Desperate due to mass losses and an impossible situation they were in, the surviving soldiers decided to erect a monument to the fallen comrades-in-arms," explained Rovšček. The shrine was constructed by soldiers while resting after prolonged battles, and as Rovšček led us inside, we saw that the men had burnt the names of their 2,564 fallen brothers into oak panels – a poignant reminder of the horrors that took place in this now picture-perfect setting.
Chou's practical knowledge and unmatched awareness of the mountain terrain soon made him a sought-after guide. The Taiwanese government even began to take notice of the sport's increased popularity, thanks in no small part to Chou's efforts. In 2005, then-president Chen Shui-bian summoned Chou for a meeting, and Chou handed the leader a proposal to improve the state of hiking in Taiwan.
Since March, he has circumnavigated the island two and a half times, sometimes alone and occasionally joined by friends, both old and new. All told, including his journeys up and down Taiwan's various peaks, Chou says he's walked more than 10,000km in Taiwan.
This enabled farmers to grow dozens of different crops, from maize and potatoes to quinoa and coca, many of which would not otherwise have survived in the region. The upshot was a dramatic increase in the overall amount of food produced.
In the absence of a written language, the Inca used a complex system of multicoloured knotted strings known as quipu (or khipu) to maintain inventories, as well as keep track of population and astronomical data. Some academics believe quipu may even have been used to record narratives such as stories, songs and poems.
This form of indigenous architecture has fascinated scientists like the Technical University of Munich's Ludwig, for the potential to learn from them to make buildings and spaces in other parts of the world greener.
Today, it's a major tourist attraction. As tourists began flocking, homestays opened. Locals built campsites and guided visitors through the hilly jungle. Makeshift stalls stacked up everything from crisp packets to bottled drinks. In March, when Syiemlieh visited Laitkynsew, a village just south of Tyrna, she saw locals pull, twist and weave aerial roots of a fig tree on bamboo scaffolding to build a triple bridge – two layers run parallel to each another as in the double-decker bridge, while a third root layer is slanted across the river bank. "Maybe they thought that three layers can attract more tourists," says Syiemlieh.
On one hand, says Peiteado, this would allow tools such as public funds from the European Union's Common Agricultural Policy to ensure the socioeconomic viability of extensive grazing. On the other hand, differentiation would allow consumers to support pastoralism.
For most post-war writers, the cause of global annihilation would not be a freak intruder from outer space but the greed, malice and stupidity of mankind itself. To this day, the bomb is how we measure impact (the comet in Don't Look Up is said to be equivalent to "a billion Hiroshimas") and how we think about preventing it. The possibility of deflecting or destroying a NEO with nuclear warheads was first mooted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Project Icarus in 1967 and dramatised in the misleadingly titled 1979 Sean Connery movie Meteor.
The following year's These Final Hours, written and directed by Zak Hilditch, explores the same idea to much less cheering effect. Despite their very different tones, both movies are road trips punctuated by suicides, orgiastic parties and delusional survivalists. Both conclude with two lovers swallowed up by a blaze of white as the end arrives.
There is no easy cure to heal fractured relationships. But a better understanding of our family dynamics can help prepare us for the inevitable flashpoints and reveal ways to cope with the stress.
If the inevitable friction leads you or the in-laws to take offence, and your partner doesn't take your side, it only adds to the hurt. It may be that, having lived the family script for so long, your partner simply cannot see your point of view, or that – because of the accepted roles within the family – they feel unable to intervene, but that doesn't make it any easier to bear. You may feel completely abandoned in this unfamiliar territory. "Betrayal is often not too harsh a word, in these circumstances," says Apter.
On the surface, German school cones are a very simple gift: a large, decorated cardboard cone, filled with sweets, stationery and toys. But over the past two centuries, they have acquired a unique place in German culture, as a much-loved, deeply symbolic present from one generation to the next – one that carries a powerful cultural and psychological meaning.
Troublingly thin, his nondescript brown T-shirt hanging off his shoulders and long legs curved outwards at the knee - a sure sign of vitamin D deficiency and the reason for his bow-legged gait.
After crossing Sao Paulo to join Palmeiras, he lifted the 1994 Brazilian league title and was named player of the season once more. Such consistency was rewarded with further national team call-ups, but coach Carlos Alberto Parreira decided the 22-year-old was "too selfish" and "unreliable", leaving him at home as Brazil went on to win the 1994 World Cup.
At Camp Nou, he netted 130 times en route to winning La Liga twice, lifting the Copa del Rey and being awarded both the Ballon d'Or and the Fifa World Player of the Year in 1999.
In December 2014, facing growing criticism and owed more than R$10m (£1.3m), he put the club up for sale and made the decision known via Instagram. The sale finally went through in July 2015.
BBC Sport was told one of the mitigating factors behind the decision not to dismiss Kane for his first-half challenge was the fact Robertson lifted his standing leg out of the way of the Spurs captain's tackle.
"From the time children are born, we differentiate between boys and girls - we buy them different toys, boys get guns and cars while girls get dolls, boys are dressed in blue while girls wear pink, and as they grow, their shoes and clothes become different too.
"Berlusconi is a leader as an entrepreneur, a leader in the football sector as the owner of AC Milan, one of the most important politicians in the history of my country, who worked hard in favour of transatlantic relations," he explains.
He says he called the police, but when they arrived, the protesters accused him of abusing and forcing a Hindu man to convert to Christianity. The pastor was arrested - under charges of "outraging the religious feelings of any class" - and spent 12 days in prison before he was released on bail.
Father Francis D'Souza, a priest at a local church in Belagavi, alleged last week that a man with a sword tried to attack him. The case is being investigated and top police officials have assured Father D'Souza that he will be protected.
China's Academy of Military Science has been given a mandate to make sure that this happens, through "civil-military fusion", in other words joining up Chinese private sector technology companies with the country's defence industries.
About 4am, telephones began buzzing up and down the east coast of the United States as reporters demanded responses from Nasa officials to the Tass dispatch," Nasa wrote in a report on Gagarin’s mission. "John A 'Shorty' Powers half-consciously replied to his first inquisitor, 'We're all asleep down here'." One widely celebrated US newspaper headline
Gagarin, it emerged later, was lucky to survive the mission – not because of problems in space, but because his re-entry module had failed to disengage properly from the orbital module. The cables failed to cut correctly and the two craft spun violently until the wires gave way. Only after that was Gagarin able to eject from the module and make it safely back down to Earth. "So when he did come over, everybody in the West acknowledged that this was a huge achievement for the Soviet Union."
Gagarin then focused on getting fit enough for a return to space. The first cosmonaut was reserve pilot for the first Soyuz mission in April 1967; this mission ended in tragedy, killing Gagarin's friend Vladimir Komarov. Soviet authorities banned him from space travel, though Gagarin still insisted on logging enough flight hours on jet aircraft to remain a credible instructor. It was on one of these flights, in March 1968, that Gagarin died. In an incident still
“While there’s nothing especially modern about family conflict or a desire to feel insulated from it, conceptualising the estrangement of a family member as an expression of personal growth, as it is commonly done today, is almost certainly new,” says Coleman. “Deciding which people to keep in or out of one’s life has become an important strategy.”
But while improved mental health and perceived increased freedom are common outcomes of estrangement, Pillemer argues the decision can also create feelings of instability, humiliation and stress.
Bean removed the shoebox-sized camera from the equipment bay to mount it on a tripod, so viewers could watch the Moonwalk. But as Bean positions the camera, he accidentally pointed it towards the Sun. Most of the picture went black, with a bright indistinct white patch at the top of the screen.
In fact, she says, people planning such space missions are well aware of the risks that boredom and monotony could bring, and need to actively find ways to counteract them, through entertainment tailored to crew members, for example.

ReplyDelete"For every person who selects TEXTp and keeps it on while you watch a video, you save YouTube $1 a second, resulting in potentially billions of dollars of savings for us. So if you care about YouTube, you’ll use TEXTp today."
ReplyDeleteha ha, that sounds just like those spam chain messages that say hotmail are trying to clear up old addresses to save money, and if you don't forward this message to all your friends we will assume your account is no longer used and delete it.
Good April Fool's!
lolol brilliant
ReplyDeleteSo instead of using your Engineers and Coders/Programers to their full potential to keep YouTube fresh and running smooth, you've been using them to put frickin' letters on videos just for one day!
ReplyDeleteHehehehe!!!
ReplyDeleteJokes aside, does it really save bandwidth? Nope! The conversion is performed locally on your pc, therefore the original video is still downloaded! Don't believe me? Compare your CPU usage with TEXTp on and off.
ReplyDeleteThis TEXTp option should be kept after aprill fools indefinitely, its fun, and i would deff use it :D
ReplyDeletewhy wud i want youtube to save money
ReplyDeletefck you
what a joke, no body cares about big fishes like you
ReplyDeleteHahaha, well played, YouTube, well played. I'll admit, though, that did make the video I was watching quite a bit more entertaining. :D
ReplyDeleteI thought it was several kinds of awesome. :P Well done sirs (and madams), you should keep the option all year round.
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE NEEDS HUGS
ReplyDeleteThis NEEDS to stay after April Fools Day!
ReplyDeleteWho thought of TEXT P ? It's quite clever I thought, but I don't think it will catch on! Happy April fools day :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat droobey said ^^^
ReplyDeleteJust emailed a few people with a couple of good TEXTp video examples, but it'll probably be gone by the time they read them! :(

ReplyDeleteThis _so_ needs to stay after April 1! It's brilliant.
ReplyDeleteLego Movies. In ASCII.
actually cant beleive the amount of ppl whinging an crying about this,
ReplyDeleteEven though I knew it was an April Fools, I still checked it out. It's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if YouTube actually kept this option after April 1st, it's like seeing what the video would look like if played on some sort of ASCII game.
Make YouTube have text only video!
ReplyDeleteI R like It's like So....1010100011101..
S 0 R R Y ....T H E - L E T T E R S - G O T - T O - M E
ARGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Thats so funny! So sore on my eyes; but I great novelty XD
ReplyDeleteI love this April Fool's gag. :D
ReplyDeletePlease, Youtube, keep TEXTp in as an option after April 1st, watching videos this way is -awesome- fun.
nice april fools youtube ;)
ReplyDeleteThis was introduced on March 31st, therefore Youtube is the foolee and we, the consumer are the fooler. Get it right up ye Youtube.
ReplyDeletenot nessisairialy, Depending on your geo-location depends when it was relesed.
ReplyDeleteIt ws released 6 hours behind england, and 12 hours behind china for example
Some people really need to get a sense of humour, complaining about wasting time or money... it's pretty sad to think that's how their minds work on a day like this...
ReplyDeleteYou can view videos like this in VLC, pretty good april fools, its better than googles animal translate! google Tisp is still my all time favourite
ReplyDeleteI would like this to be a permanent feature - its great!
ReplyDeleter u trying to make everyone as fools....
ReplyDelete- i think there's great potential for litero-artistic expression here - or the challenge of creating images where the text also makes sense - or even a numero-artistic approach where only 0-9 are used - congratulations youtube on creating a new art-form -
ReplyDeleteThis has totally ruined the careers of professional ASCII artists. I hope you're happy Youtube and Topeka!
ReplyDeleteI love it though, looks great.
That's INCREDIBLE! Please please please please please don't turn this off after 1 April, it's so funny to see! :D :D
ReplyDeleteInstead of doing features like this and making new layouts could u just fix the subscriptions box on the youtube homepage. Im talking about not being able to cross out videos from my subscriptions box which i do not want to watch!
ReplyDeleteNever get rid of this, it's brilliant :D
ReplyDeleteI agree with Andy, it's an amazing mode, please keep it :D
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteKeep this feature please.
ReplyDeleteASCII art is just epicly awesome.
Just one thing...make it work on all video's please :)
the cool thing is that this is actually viable. i remember an australian university broadcasting the world cup (soccer) live over telnet a few years ago.
ReplyDeletehere's the link for anyone who may be interested:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ascii-wm.net/
Pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteThe socialists will be up in arms about big business making such a joke!
That's hilarious :D
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Just another way of Google getting their dosh. Fail.
ReplyDeleteOww :O It uses more CPU than 720p/30!
ReplyDeleteI think its a wicked April Fools!!! Keep it please..maybe in a less prominent position but it does look awesome!
ReplyDeleteyou may of taken away loads of things that made youtube good. but this is the best feature you ever came upw ith. i was gonna leave youtube till i heard of this option. please keep it forever
ReplyDeleteby the way please subscribe me im mariogamer2010 i got loads of cool videos
ReplyDeletethirdly let all the videos on the wentire utube have this automatically and all the videos that are already uploaded. so lets say 23423423482334823842348482238428348 years of video plz. not much but lol
ReplyDeleteInstead of fannying around making this ascii video shite for april fools and the terrible new layout, how about improving the speed at which we stream videos? It's absolutely terrible. Having to wait 10mins for a 3minute 480p video to load on my 10mbit cable is not acceptable and it's been the case for months now
ReplyDeleteI love it.
ReplyDeleteJust love it.
Now that you've put all the effort into making it, please keep it.
Please? It pleases my inner libaa geek.
rahaha!! v good Cheers Google - be good!
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please keep this. I would use it. ALL THE TIME.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if all the bugs and faults on the site are also to do with April Fools. You need to sort out all the broken parts, and once its fixed leave it alone.
ReplyDeleteFor at least a couple of weeks now, youtubes been broken.
as fake as it is, TEXTp is 'LOL'
ReplyDeleteIt's really cool...! But makes my CPU work on 100%... :(
ReplyDeleteProbably, you continue to stream the video and we do all the translation locally...
ReplyDeleteSo why can't i watch my own videos in TEXTp?!
ReplyDeleteFail.
I've tried adding &textp=fool to any url and seems to work with all videos, even if it is an april fools joke it must have taken quite a bit of programming skill. Well done youtube great fun!
ReplyDeletewtf?? *sees the calendar* aaaah, fair enough.. nice one! :)
ReplyDeleteSome people need to chill out and stop crying, I love it Google!
ReplyDeleteNICE, you are awesome google + youtube! x
ReplyDeleteSO IF YOUTUBE ARE INVESTING IN VIDEO CODING DOES THIS MEAN WE CAN SOON UPLOAD OUR VIDEOS AS A .TXT FILE ?
ReplyDeletecongrats on you're April's fools joke
ReplyDeletetextP is great for listening to music
ReplyDeleteThis is actually technically amazing for an April Fools joke. Will the feature be allowed to be implimented on URLs to work after today like what's been done with last year and the upside down stuff?
ReplyDeleteI seriously need to know!
The TEXTp videos were a great laugh, it's a shame April 1st is over here now. Would LOVE to see this implemented as a full time feature though :)
ReplyDeleteMan, you guys should consider adding the text feature again. It's seriously cool!
ReplyDeleteAww, its gone now :( Bring it back, it was awesome :D
ReplyDeleteNo, its gone. Seriously make that a permanent feature it's hilarious.
ReplyDeleteGoddamn PLEASE bring it back! If you do it will completely make up for the fact you stopped everyone from blocking comments.
ReplyDeletePlease bring the feature back, at least temporarily - some people didn't get a chance to experience this!
ReplyDeleteThere should be petition. Everyone, vote to bring TEXTp back!
I want TEXTp back! It looks amazing with some videos
ReplyDeletebring back TEXTp!!
ReplyDeleteThere are no upload dates. How d'you know what date it was uploaded?
ReplyDeleteHow can youtube replace the rating system with either being liked or disliked? i find it is not often as clear cut as that and that there are different amounts i liked the video -
ReplyDeletehence stars = good idea
like/dislike = facebook rip off and a rubbish idea for videos to be based on.
P.S. how many films do you see with like/dislike feature in ratings magazines? oh whats that? none? thought so...
Bring back TEXTp mode, it was awesome :(
ReplyDeleteTEXTp mode is quite cool idea. I enjoyed it and i wouldn't mind having it permanently :]
ReplyDelete"You can also append &textp=fool to most video URLs to test it out."
ReplyDeleteI only used Youtube on the 1st to listen to a song, so when I put that mode on, I didn't really notice it much. Still, I liked the added little plead for saving money on it, and the bit that I quoted above just put the icing on the cake.
Come on, that mode was good. :P Keep it, even if only accessible via the address bar.
ReplyDeleteAlso, an option to download video without sound would be helpful to save (personal) bandwidth (so that videos spend less time buffering when the soundtrack is just some random guy's favourite song at the time, more often than not unappealing).
I don't mind if this is kept or not - besides, it's not like I'm going to use it. Besides, the "&textp=fool" gave the game away.
ReplyDelete@Score_Under
ReplyDeletePerhaps an option to miss out on the video when listening to music then?
Should definitely be an option.
I got so confused!
ReplyDeleteBring textp back? Please
ReplyDeleteI have tried according to ypur tip but ddnt succeed..cheapest loans

Maybe, say experts. The timeless factors underpinning the one-year rule are still in place: on the employer side, an employee who stays at least a year is a better investment than one who doesn’t, and their loyalty is also viewed as a positive. On the employee side, staying for 12 months means time to pick up skills and competencies that are not possible to learn in just one business quarter.

As a young girl, Kassam recalls walking into her grandmother's closet and dressing up in her old floral saris. "I love the simplicity of wearing a printed sari. They are truly a timeless piece we can pass on to future generations," says Kassam.

learned several new words during my time in Shetland, the distant island chain drifting between Scotland and Norway.

Still, Bellotte says he didn't sulk for too long at the time because a track from the album, Romeo, later earned a "nice sum of money" for all involved when it appeared on 1983's hugely successful Flashdance movie soundtrack.

Scientists are becoming increasingly concerned that food-related content on social media is making us think differently about food. Social media algorithms promote content that users engage with more, so viewing more unhealthy food means seeing more of it on our social media feeds, Pancer says.

And so the really incredible thing about the tractor is it's a bridge away from our dependence on fossil fuel."

Some academics believe quipu may even have been used to record narratives such as stories, songs and poems.

The first cosmonaut was reserve pilot for the first Soyuz mission in April 1967; this mission ended in tragedy, killing Gagarin's friend Vladimir Komarov. It was on one of these flights, in March 1968, that Gagarin died. In an incident still
