If I don't like what I hear or watch, I can change it. I like to make the ultimate decision on that. I don't approve of YouTube's big brother approach and limitations on both viewers and producers. I think its a bad idea that will cost it viewers.
All the extreme negative comments from people opposed to this annoucment are off base. YouTube is just a website, not your website, but in fact just a website. If 'YOU' want to shout profanity, get your own domain, get it hosted and post. YouTube cannot take away free speech because it did not grant free speech. Many are confusing free speech with the mechanical delivery of an idea. You guys and gals that are so angry over this are arguing apples in an orange grove. You can make your own website, upload video and stram them to whomever displaying whatever content using any delivery method you choose and the people of the internet will either visit and watch or they will not. If you do this and receive no visits... who will you be angry at then?
This is stupid Youtube is screwing itself over I have the right to choose what to watch and how I react to it. I don't a chaperone on hte internet.
I noticed on another page someone said that they don't want to see profanity and they don't want their kids seeing it well
two things there Turn off what ever offends you and if you don't want your kids to see things then monitor there internet useage problems solved bitches.
EXCELLENT to remove porn from youtube!! Needs to be done. Profanity demotion also a great idea. I hear many youtubers are not in favor of it, they can go elsewhere to post/view inappropriate content.

Nice to see someone has morals! Too bad there are always those who have a problem with standards:)
Way to screw up your site more, with your stricter guidelines.
and likely hidden agenda motives too with it.
Its a bunch of Bull.
Leave Youtube as is.
Stop destroying youtube more and more, Higher ups of said site.
Ever since it became moe corporate, google buying it out, the owner becoming rich sell outs more so.
and the rules getting worse and worse, and people getting banned, or accounts getting closed, at times more so lately for B.S. reasons.
Your Going to kill your user community, more and more, with such policies that can be used to kill our rights when we speak here, or such on vid.
Your corporate partner probably hate there vids get neagative comments, and low ratings, and maybe want to take it out on us.
or you maybe just want to shut up the users with big opinions, or "controversial" ones, if that the case, then shame on you all who run this damn site thats been tampered with over the years for the growing worse, Youtube can bite the dust if thats the case.
2.When the head of the MPAA has to admit to copying the film that criticizes the very industry he represents, an industry group of lobbyists and litigators against such copying, it highlights an important fact beyond the obvious hypocrisy. The internet has completely changed the economics of sharing. When sharing equals copying on the internet and the direct cost of that sharing is effectively $0 (it doesn't cost you anything to share videos on Youtube or BitTorrent), it makes copyright infringement so easy that even Dan Glickman can do it. So easy that a mom like Stephanie Lenz can do it when she posted a video of her 13-month-old son dancing to Prince's music. And I mean no disrespect to them.
1.The problem lies in something fundamentally broken with the copyright system. A choice quote from Cory Doctorow's article on the "copyfight": Quote: So the natural inclination of anyone who is struck by a piece of creative work is to share it. And since "sharing" on the Internet is the same as "copying," this puts you square in copyright's crosshairs. Everyone copies. Dan Glickman, the ex-Congressman who now heads up the Motion Picture Association of America (as pure a copyright maximalist as you could hope to meet) admitted to copying Kirby Dick's documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated (a scorching critique of the MPAA's rating system) but excused it because the copy was "in [his] vault." To pretend that you do not copy is to adopt the twisted hypocrisy of the Victorians who swore that they never, ever masturbated. Everyone knows that they themselves are lying, and a large number of us know that everyone else is lying too.
5.If you want to join the copyfight, simply share your thoughts by replying, share this post with your friends, and join isoHunt's Facebook group. With our pending lawsuit against the CRIA in our home country, we may need your voice real soon, especially if you are Canadian.
4.'ve said a number of times that I'm not against copyright, but copyright does need significant reform in the internet age. If all this rampant copying on BitTorrent and the internet has not made a dent in Hollywood's record earnings, why can't we all just get along without rabid lawsuits? Why can't they see that sharing and remixing is a human urge for culture, and when we share and remixes art, it's not a liability but an endorsement for the artist or author or producer?
When the majority of society has no ethical conviction of wrongdoing when they violate copyright law, it's not society that's wrong, it's the law. Because no one can really own ideas. Newton once said, "If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of Giants." It's how the arts and sciences progresses. We share, we inspire and we remix.
3.This is an age of rampant sharing and remixing, and if you can make the connection between sharing and culture as Doctorow has, you will see this war between rightsholders and consumers will never end and the rightsholders will never win. The band Girl Talk and Lessig and James Boyle and Terry McBride of Nettwerk and isoHunt all echo a common point: Remixing and sharing is good for culture, suing consumers and technologists who enable sharing is destructive for everyone. The internet is a more efficient information machine than the printing press or VCR ever was, and also a whole different animal. It's time the content industries learn to put it to better use as well, by discarding past notions of how business is done based on an economy of scarcity. In Star Trek, currency becomes irrelevant with virtually unlimited "copying" of physical objects with the Replicator. The internet is the Replicator of information. When a 13-month-old dances to Prince's music, copyright infringement is nowhere near his consciousness. It's an endorsement that he likes it, pure and simple.

I must say that I agree there may be far too much profanity on here, but demotion of these videos is dishonest. Maybe it would be better to implement a system by which, upon uploading any videos, you have to tick a box to show if it does or does not contain profanity or the like? Then maybe an automatic 3 second warning at the beginning of each video with said content to warn users. This middle way would protect users, but not damage the true view numbers of those members who have uploaded such content. Just a suggestion..
You guys are honestly ruining your own great work. You are getting too Politically Correct, and video makers are leaving because of your removal of videos and this new off most discussed list thing. You are ruining YouTube! Google has ruined you.

Keep pushing buttons and the people will begin to fight back when put into a corner. all u need to do is let us b who we are. Look at all whom are here now tellin u how they really feel. take heed on our words or im sure u can agree there may not be a youtube soon. and dont worry or laugh about this many of us know how to reestablish websites we can just create another. in fact there already hundreds. so youtube u need to ask "yourself" do u still wanna get paid? then leave the censoring alone. u have done such a great job for many years why do u want to do this now? please we are here askin and stating please cease this nonsense.

...and I thought youtube was for 13 year olds and up...well good bye youtube I will miss the old you. RIP youtube 2005-2008...we have lost something that used to be good.
This may leave way for a new youtube type website for the edgier stuff. Does this mean that when I look at 'most viewed' I'm seeing 'most viewed and suitable for kids' selection ???
imagine if just 5% if the idiots talking about this did something useful instead. Maybe we wouldn't have a climate change apolyse on our horizon, maybe the economy wouldn't be tapped out, maybe...
Ok so if videos are being 'algorithmically' demoted, how do you explain this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pWoS6ia_3U0&feature=dir
?
It's on the front page in the promoted videos section. So user generated videos that are just like this aren't okay but advertising this video on the front page is fine? Did you put ANY thought into these new rules?
Guys, Youtube can do whatever they want. It is their site, not yours. I hate people who only think about themselves. Selfish jerks. I don't care about this change, I'm not for it or against it. But I am against the spoiled people who forget that it isn't their youtube, it's youtube's youtube. And they can do whatever they bliddy want. So stop crying and realize your not in control, and realize all youtube has done for you and what they continue to do for you. Their is no other youtube, and if they want to change then let them. And if you don't like it. Leave. And stop being selfish jerks who care for nothing but yourselves, and think that youtube owes you something, truthfully, you owe them something. Respect. For giving more than they recieve from you.
actually fatamericanteensftm there is another Youtube its called putfile it is pretty similar in that it is just one big place to view and put videos.
I do totally agree though that you tube can do what they want and are just trying to make youtube a better place for all of us. there is fare too much crap on you tube!
Why does shit like this ALWAYS happen? Dont fuck this up youtube. This is a social place for everyone, you've let people come in, you no longer are in full ownership, and this strongly hurts our rights.
Like everyone else has said. Freedom of speech. Maybe you don't see how ridiculous your site is getting. You DO realize you're losing viewers and users because your updates and such SUCK. Right? According to the comments, VERY few people like the ideas of the 'great changes' you have in store for the future of youtubehell. I used to love coming on here all the time to watch videos and talk to people. Now its so different... I'de rather sit on my damn couch and read a book. Congrats, you officially suck more that I thought you could.
Wow, YouTube wouldn't listen because they can't be bothered to suspend gunfever and his friends. You know what, if you keep your shitty updates up. You will end up being bankcrupt!!
Youtube went to hell , i used to enjoy coming on here and watching and uploading my videos , but now i'm just about ready to close my account and find another website where i can upload my videos without a problem and watch others videos
First there's shitty updates, then there's overlay ads on videos which distract viewers, then more shitty updates, then there's no option for widescreen to make it optional, then more shitty updates, then they removed the bulletins and replaced with a shitty Recent Activity box, and now then they WON'T FLAG TROLLS!! AND NOW THEY WANT TO CENSOR AND DEMOTE OUR VIDEOS. WTF YOUTUBE!! GET A BRAIN, IF YOU KEEP YOUR SHITTY UPDATES UP I'M LEAVING!!
This is unbelievable. When did YouTube become a Red State? This type of censorship is totally ruining the YouTube we know today. The internet offers more choice than TV, if you don't like what someone is saying, then leave the video, it's that simple! There is no need for this type of unrealistic censorship. Sorry YouTube, but if this happens me and millions of other dedicated people who make videos are going to lose a lot of faith in you.
I have had all of my favourite tracks deleted-most of these were up-loaded by a very kind man called George Lupine. Why on earth you want to delete tracks from 70's vinyl-God alone knows. This man was appreciated by very many grateful Youtube users-what on earth has he done?
this is stupid. people like those videos because they can watch stuff thats not on tv. also because there is more choice and its a community with free speech and ideas. stuff you mught not see until afther the watshed on tv. sort it out guys, this is stupid. only a few people want this. i understand improving video thumbnails and more accurate video information, but everything else is silly. get it together and sort it out.
If I don't like what I hear or watch, I can change it. I like to make the ultimate decision on that. I don't approve of YouTube's big brother approach and limitations on both viewers and producers. I think its a bad idea that will cost it viewers.
ReplyDeleteI'm just giving my opinion!
ReplyDeleteYouTube is basically just asking: dont cuss. Its really not that hard.
That doesn't seem that bad to me, I think its fair, because many minors watch videos too.
Anyways, they own YouTube! They can do what they want with it.
And its just a website! Get over it!

ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE FUCKING BANNED ME FOR NO REASON??
I FUCKING HATE YOU GOOGLE & YOUTUBE I HOPE ONE DAY YOU WILL SEE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO THE INTERNET AND THE GOOD PEOPLE OF THIS WORLD!
This is just a bit extreme. If you noticed, most of your more popular members make videos with this content.
ReplyDeleteMost of them become classics and such, why take away a funny topic in humor and stardom from potential stars?

The internet offers more choice than TV, if you don't like what someone is saying, then leave the video, it's that simple! There is no need for this type of unrealistic censorship. Sorry YouTube, but if this happens me and millions of other dedicated people who make videos are going to lose a lot of faith in you.
ReplyDeleteGuys at youtube.... cmon, dont do that -.-'
ReplyDeleteWow, YouTube starting to become GayTube now. :(
ReplyDeleteXD GayTube
ReplyDeleteYour help center is so fucking useless. IMPROVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteI have had all of my favourite tracks deleted-most of these were up-loaded by a very kind man called George Lupine.
ReplyDeleteWhy on earth you want to delete tracks from 70's vinyl-God alone knows.
