I think that in general it's a good feature, for instance if a user wishes to increase awareness of a particular cause or interest.
However, one's recent activity is by default public, which may raise concerns over privacy until account settings are altered and the information made private. Thank you.
As regards bulletins, I personally prefer the old style. I feel that like any message, bulletins are most effective when they are broadcast rather than having to have the recipient come and read them directly. It would be especially difficult for instance, if one had several bulletins a day; keeping track and having to look for each bulletin would be difficult and time-consuming.

how about i want to get rid of that stupid Recent Activity Box all together??? it seems like a ridiculous idea, if anyone wants to see what videos i have favourited recently all they have to do is look at my favourites box. And same goes for recently uploaded videos. This box sucks, how about in stead you give us back our nice little full screen box format in stead of the shitty widescreen format??? Also how about stoping all the censorship??? If kid's watch stuff on youtube that they shouldn't be watching it is the responsability of the adults around them, the internet is a place were children could be exposed to all sorts of adult material and it is the responsibility of the parents, not of the internet.

1) A small video box on youtube channels that can be used to make an offical introduction to the owner of the channel. 2) Get rid of the two black pillars at the side of the video box! it is a waste of space! 3) STOP MAKING INAPPROPRIOT CHANGES!!!!
FAO : anyone complaining about privacy - You can select NOT to have the new "recent activity" box on your channel by selecting : a) Edit Channel; b) Channel Design. Then de-selecting show "recent activity" via the appropriate button mid-way down the Channel Design page. OK.

Okay, I'm genuinely unsure about who it is you're listening to, and if they even use this site, because it seems that all the changes you've made recently, noone has asked for, or wants. I'm quite glad about the bulletins disappearing, personally it seemed like a waste. But still, it does look like you've created a new wave of unhappy users- tough shit I guess, but yes, this isn't MySpace. If you want to contact people, use the email feature. As to the Recent Activity, it does look like a complete waste of time. If I'm right in saying that it'll feature news like recently uploading a video, then that's just pointless because people can see in our video list if something is new, or will see it in their subscription box. If they want to know what we've favourited, they can look at our Favourites, and if we want to show people what we've rated recently, WE CAN ADD THE RECENT RATINGS BOX TO OUR CHANNEL. All in all this box isn't a horrible change but it is just another example of you not listening to your users, and if you are then you're not making a show of it. Please READ these comments (maybe not the ones on this entry, because most are fairly grammatically redundant), because there are a lot of people with genuinely GOOD ideas that would IMPROVE the site, not just make it look flashy and slow it down. I can't imagine ANYONE asking YouTube for these changes! Sounds like a patronising, condescendingly annoying idea from a stupid morale team-building camp with terms like "dynamic, fresh and timely." I think an "opt in or out" system would have much more well received. IMPOSING this on everyone sends out the wrong message. Too "CHINESE".

Honestly YouTube, it doesn't make a huge pile of difference to me (I hardly use any of the features), but still, there are obviously a large number of people who have problems with this. It seems to me that you just listen to the wrong parts of what your users are suggesting, then piece together completely random features that just gt on everyone's nerves. But it's your call, if you want to risk the depletion of site traffic.
Well, I'm not really fazed by this new recent acivity box, but some people seem pretty annoyed by it. I'm more peeved over the fact my background and icon can't be animated anymore, and that deleted mail keeps reappearing in my inbox. Oh well,we'll see what happens. Don't think there are many happy bunnies though.

Who the hell said that?! Removing the bulletin board is a bad thing! Sure, most bulletins were a waste of space but it was a useful thing to have when people on my friends list have a message to send out or let us know of their new videos!

What happened to the 'when added' info on the videos? It was a useful guide to understand the relevance of 'view' numbers. At least you can switch off the 'recent activity box', you can't seem to switch 'added' info back on.

I also think bulletins are needed, its impossible to contact large numbers of friend at once through recent activity box since not all will be on your profile.
I'm ok with some things, but what the hell, I Don't want people knowing what I've recently viewed or rated or anything, so I turn it off, and what does it do? it says that other people can still see it and I have to change yet another setting, I'm tired of these changes, some are ok, but I think your only doing this because 90% of computer users are idiots.

without bulletins, i cant tell my friends about new videos i put up. it is easier to make one bulletin than comment on all my friends pages to tell them i have a new video on. i think its stupid the way youtube keeps changing. the last way was the easiest to understand. now my background is just one pic rather than duplicated (dont know if i can change that yet though) put it back!!!

The one thing I don't like aboutthe redesign is that the arrow linking me to parts of my account is next to my screen name rather than next to the account option like it was before. It makes it difficult for me to highlight my screen name for meto return to my main page without bringing up the account options.
Seeing as we have the option to add or remove certain boxes, such as the new recent activity box, in our channel design options, that doesn't bother me so much.
this is just completely stupid because everyone can see what you've been doing recently, which is totally wrong, especially when youtube boast on about not giving details away.

ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm genuinely unsure about who it is you're listening to, and if they even use this site, because it seems that all the changes you've made recently, noone has asked for, or wants.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite glad about the bulletins disappearing, personally it seemed like a waste. But still, it does look like you've created a new wave of unhappy users- tough shit I guess, but yes, this isn't MySpace. If you want to contact people, use the email feature.
As to the Recent Activity, it does look like a complete waste of time. If I'm right in saying that it'll feature news like recently uploading a video, then that's just pointless because people can see in our video list if something is new, or will see it in their subscription box. If they want to know what we've favourited, they can look at our Favourites, and if we want to show people what we've rated recently, WE CAN ADD THE RECENT RATINGS BOX TO OUR CHANNEL. All in all this box isn't a horrible change but it is just another example of you not listening to your users, and if you are then you're not making a show of it.
Please READ these comments (maybe not the ones on this entry, because most are fairly grammatically redundant), because there are a lot of people with genuinely GOOD ideas that would IMPROVE the site, not just make it look flashy and slow it down.
I'd really love for you to take this on board, and maybe just for once, an actual response would be nice.

Sounds like a patronising, condescendingly annoying idea from a stupid morale team-building camp with terms like "dynamic, fresh and timely." I think an "opt in or out" system would have much more well received. IMPOSING this on everyone sends out the wrong message. Too "CHINESE".

This is only causing more problems than solving anything.

ReplyDeleteHonestly YouTube, it doesn't make a huge pile of difference to me (I hardly use any of the features), but still, there are obviously a large number of people who have problems with this. It seems to me that you just listen to the wrong parts of what your users are suggesting, then piece together completely random features that just gt on everyone's nerves. But it's your call, if you want to risk the depletion of site traffic.

I'm more peeved over the fact my background and icon can't be animated anymore, and that deleted mail keeps reappearing in my inbox. Oh well,we'll see what happens. Don't think there are many happy bunnies though.

The YouTube interface really is rubbish. So cluttered, unattractive and unintuitive. And there continues to be so many pointless little changes taking place. ReplyDeleteI also think bulletins are needed, its impossible to contact large numbers of friend at once through recent activity box since not all will be on your profile.

ReplyDeleteThe one thing I don't like aboutthe redesign is that the arrow linking me to parts of my account is next to my screen name rather than next to the account option like it was before. It makes it difficult for me to highlight my screen name for meto return to my main page without bringing up the account options.
