It looks absolutly hideous, unorganized, and I can't make heads or tails of it.
I am also missing the list to see if there are new messages, comments, etc. I don't want to see reccomended videos, there is a reason why I shut that off on the old website. And now I can't. I hardly care about friend activity, so why is it on the top of the page?
Don't fix what isn't broken, you just broke youtube with this.
This is a complete mess and needs to be turned back instantly, or at least give us the option to do so. This would have been a good April Fools joke.

It's just so confusing. It's horrible, I think the term cluster f**k comes to mind. I liked my old page, this one just gives me a headachne, I can't stand to look at it. I have no interest in 99% of the stuff on it.

I tried the NEW homepage and didnt like it...went back to my subs page...then come back and lo and behold, you just changed it to the mess of stuff that im not interested in....i dont really care what my subscriptions have favourited or whatever, i dont want someone thinking for me and what i might like to watch...most of it is c.r.a.p...and dont tell me theres a X button to press if i dont want it. I just want an uncluttered page of my favs and thats it.

I can either see every little thing the people I subscribe to do, missing uploads becuase I'm being told about likes and favorites that frankly I dont care about. On the other hand, I can swtich to a far cleaner view, where I can be told soley about subscription uploads, but with no reccomendations or anything to actually do when there arent any.
Of course the answer is that I can spend my time switching between views, rather than watching videos I want to see, but I suspect menu hopping isnt the reason most people come to youtube.
Why cant you continue running both homepages, like you have been doing for the past month? Clearly it was possible, and giving people CHOICE must be the best way to personalise their own homepage, rather than you doing it for us.
Wait, "increased focus on videos that matter to you"? Sorry, but this is total bullshit. If you're subscribed to more than like 5 people, the new system knocks new uploads off the page in a matter of hours. This attempt at a News Feed format is trying to hard to look like Facebook and Twitter, and you automatically assume that people are going to go back through older posts to see what they've missed. VIRTUALLY NO-ONE DOES THIS. Not on Facebook, not on Tumblr, not on here.
Once again YouTube, you've shown a complete misunderstanding of your user base and thrown something at them that they DON'T WANT. PLEASE, stop trying to be a social network and stick to what you're good at.
This isn't very good at all, it looks like a HUGE mess, its not very organised, and its not very ergonomic, quite frankly its rubbish, and we don't want it.
A step in the wrong direction. 1) The previous version had a neat box for newly uploaded videos from subscriptions - now that space is taken by to show one video. This was such an unnecessary change. 2) I cannot see the comments, new messages, etc. that used to help me interact with other youtubers. 3) There are only 2 options - to put it simply, there is less choice. It should go without saying that this is not an improvement.
In at nutshell, the new layout has no advantages but many, many... disadvantages.

Yep what Gamer says. It's just not as simple you say and the layout is horrid. Sack the designer or at least give us an option to put it back to the old style please.
I already know of people who have left YouTube because this....there are no words for the new homepage and much it sucks.
If it wasn't for the fact I enjoy creating informative and educational videos...I'd leave too because there's something missing about this site that used to be amazing.
The "You" in YouTube no longer applies...might as well call this site simply "Tube".
And my inbox/comments etc are NOT on the front page, as you intimate.
And on my mobile, that useless, grey menu at the bottom is now a thick, dark band across the whole screen. Great: now I can't use YouTube on my mobile.

This new page is a total mess!! Everything is really confusing and looks absolutely hideous. It actually hurts my eyes to look at the screen :/
Also I HATE the subscriptions layout. Previously it was really easy to view the new videos that had come out. Now the page goes on forever. Also if you are subscribed to one channel that uploads more than 4 videos a day, the earliest one uploaded would be knocked off the screen.

I agree with the sensible commenters - hugely messy and inefficient. I have had to unsubscribe to 5 channels to reduce the clutter and do a lot of searching to find what I want. It also reduces your feel-good factor at exploring the recommendations. You get a sense that once you subscribe to someone they can bully you and get in your face.
The display of the new page is completely unorganised, and not user freindly at all. There is no option to return to the old layout, and there is no option to change your homepage to suit yourself. I will not get used to this. I use youtube a lot, and what the homepage has become is a hot mess. If you insist on changing your website so often, at least give us the option of how our own homepage is going to look and feel, rather than shoving that trainwreck at us and telling us to deal with it.
with me being a youtuber without the capabilities of machinima to upload 30 videos a day this puts small channels out the window as the popular channels are at the top meaning people like me get no exposure to subs and are fed unoriginal montonous stuff from the likes of machinma, TERRIBLE ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

OMG I went through all the trouble to create a new account with a new name to replace my old one with a naff name and subscribe to everyone again then you screw up my experience.
I have tons of info on what the people i'm following favourited, which I couldn't care less. I loved that all the new videos uploaded by the people I subscribed to were all in 1 group together nice and clearly so I could see the new videos, whereas as now the new videos from half the people I subscribe to I cannot see for crap I don't want to see.
Please give the option of the old layout or change it back, otherwise I may end up checking out other video sites people keep advising me of.

The old homepage was the best one so far.... The current one is just too complicated, the old one, sorry better one, was easy to use, simple and it just worked well.

I dont want to scroll forever to find videos, so a grid was a more efficient way of laying them out than a list. also, id like to be able to see bulletin posts, things people liked, and new subscription videos at the same time, but ONLY if they are separated into contained blocks. since new videos are priority, i choose "subscription uploads" over "all activity". Also, on the old one, the title of the subscriptions module was a link that took you to a page where you could see loads of videos going far back, and you could choose one user and see all their recent videos. can you get to this page now? that was one of the most useful features in my opinion.

IT IS AWFUL! I tried it in the 'beta' stage and I didn't like it then and gave feedback in which I am sure people would have agreed with but it isn't there. YouTube sucks at making new homepages! Give me the option to change it back!
I don't want to sound like another troll or spammer, but it was much handier to be able to see all the most recent videos in one box without having to scroll down to see them. Please add an option to list videos by date rather than by subscription.

Like many other people I think the old Homepage was a lot better. This one doesn't look as good, and it's a lot more confusing to use. Also, the inbox on the front page is missing, making it a lot harder to keep track of comments, video responeses, inbox's etc. I much prefered the old one, as do many of my friends. Please change it back.
Dear YouTube - I thoroughly dislike pretty much all of the changes!! Extremely disappointed.
Why have you removed my inbox? I liked being able to see if I had new messages or comments on the home page, now I have to specifically search for that information. I don't mind if you add features, but don't remove things, especially something as important as my inbox!!
As for the rest, the page looks messy (far too much information, and all in separate sections) Completely unnecessary. I'm only subscribed to 11 people, but a separate section for each of their uploads, their favourites, video they have liked, etc... means there are so many sections, I had to scroll down and down and down, passed so much stuff, just to see loads of information that clutters the screen and really doesn't interest me.
Other gripes : I don't need a link to my own channel, (the link under my account settings was enough) or have a section telling me what video I have uploaded, I know what videos I have uploaded - I uploaded them!!
I have never ever left a comment/feedback to something like this, but these horrible changes have forced me to share my opinions.

Youtube, Give us the option to switch between the old and new layouts, that is all you need to do to make this all better it cant be hard because we used to have the choice but taking it away was a big mistake, every comment here is about how the new layout sucks but you wouldn't be getting all these comments if you didn't take away the option to switch between them, bring back the option and all will be well, if you do not then you will have given your user base more reason than we ever needed to believe that you don't care about us. If you want to show that you care about us and what we like just bring back the option it is a simple as that youtube.
Personally, I can live with this latest change better than with other humdingers that you made over the last year. Kind of a nice surprise ...
Don't get me wrong, though - I'm not saying that the remodeling would have been necessary in the first place, but well ... something being *necessary* has never been a reason for you to change stuff.
Still, I can say for myself that the damage score of this earthquake here is a minor one on my personal Richter Scale. I appreciate the "One uploader / several videos per day in a row" idea, for example. And I will try to wrap my head around the layout changes etc.

Hm. I want you to know that I am online on YouTube every single day, and not only for 15 minutes, but for quite a few hours at least. And I have been on YouTube for three and a half years now. So ... why has not a single one of those innumerable surveys ever ever reached my inbox? How about a survey that really reaches *every* user, and offers a questionnaire that offers options to simply click on, which would make the evaluation for you a mere database query trick? That would be a survey that I could take for serious, because I'd know it really *happened*!

No, you won't. As always, you will ignore the feedback comments here, and not reply to anyone. And what is being said here will have no effect.

I've made an account especially so that I can complain about the catastrophe that is the new homepage. Every element has been exacerbated in ways that I would only have thought possible of a Conservative government running the UK. I am proved wrong, and become ever more skeptical as to who I can trust.

I'm sorry, but I had this a while back, and I absolutely despised it, I want the old one back, as do most other people judging from these responses, there was nothing wrong with the old page, I disagree with this being a 'step in the right direction' and could you not at least, as other sites have done when introducing a new layout, provide us with the old layout as an alternative? Sorry to complain, but having already suffered the new layout during what I assume was a trial period I can only say bad things about it.

Really bad, i dont know where to start! the whole thing seems to be going in the complete opposite direction! please listen to us and give us the old home page back! its soo much better and easier to manage the subs rather than having a huge confusing column that is completely unessisary! pluss the inbox thing on the homepage has gone which really dissapointed me! google your fairly good with listening to your customers and your services are some of the best Youtube, Andriod and search, but this one you really should listen to our views and change it back to normal, or at least give us the choise of the two homepages! thankyou!
I wish to be as formal as possible with this complaint. but I am already finding it rather difficult. Firstly, I agree with everything the other several hundred-odd complaints say, and I must agree that the new homepage absolutely sucks and I must request that you change it back immediately!
Thumbs down! I don't like the new layout at all. First of all it's confusingly set out; second, I am subscribed to a fairly large amount of people and I simply do not want to see every video that they like appearing on my homepage; third, there were no problems with the old homepage.
Please, if you insist on using this, at least give us the choice between the old and the new and then see which is the most popular.

It worked perfectly as it was, all you have made me do is click 10 more times to actually get to see all my subscriptions so i can decide which videos I want to watch. Ok so I've read every comment here to look for just one positive one. There are none. That's 100% of people who commented on this blog that don't like the new homepage. Who are the millions who preferred it because conveniently they have decided not to comment? Pretty much everything you said in that blog post was a lie. Rather than dwelling on this I will address the points you think are positive about the new homepage.
1)Increased focus on videos that matter to you (subscriptions, friend's sharing, recommendations) I disagree, the video’s that mattered to me are the new videos from my subs and now they are cluttered in between favourite videos and liked videos that I don’t want to see.
2)You can easily filter your homepage to show only the latest uploads from your subscriptions When I click on subs only I have a cluttered list which is impossible to navigate. I have already realised I’ve missed a video from one of my subs yesterday, how many more can’t I find? Why would I want to change from a grid where I could see all the new video’s at a glance to a list that I have to scroll up and down to see that also has video’s I have seen before on the page as well.
3)Don't miss anything; if a channel uploads four videos in a day, you’ll see all four - instead of just the latest video As I have already stated I have missed a video which I found my using the subscription box in the top right next to my account settings. It doesn’t help to have them all on the page if they are camouflaged by a million other things.
4)Quick access to the inbox when you have new messages or comments Really? I can’t see my inbox at all. Literally is not on the page any more.
5)Knows what you have seen (videos you've watched are grayed out) Instead of clearing them from the page, exasperating the clustered look problem.
6)Remove any video (hover and click the "x" button) A feature I believe already existed.
I'm with the majority here. I'm not so keen on the new Homepage. When it was Beta I tried it a few times but ended up staying with the old one as I found it more simpler. I don't like how you have to keep clicking "Load more videos" I think it would of benefitted from a Grid layout like the old one instead of this long line to scroll down

Just to add my two penny's worth IT IS SHIT! Why can I not choose what I want on my homepage? Is that just too difficult? Other sites manage it ok. I know what I've uploaded recently, don't need reminding, I also don't want what my subscriptions have posted taking up most of the page, especially ones several weeks old! Recommended videos I like, but the old default of 9 which changed when you refreshed the page was nice, now I have to click to open 9, and they don't change if I refresh! CHANGE IT BACK ASAP!!

I really don't like the new layout it's too messy and i really liked the recommended videos, sure 80% of the time it was rubbish that i would never watch but I don't come on youtube to watch set things all the time that one thing kept me on youtube for hours sometimes just looking at random things!!

Sorry, this is not working. In order to clear my page of clutter/spam I have had to block some accounts. It's the only way to keep sanity on this awful confusion. You are forcing us to unfriend and unsubscribe. Surely that is not what you intended!
This is the same story as my facebook account. They pretend you have a "choice" to change it whenever you like, although really its just delaying the inevitable for when they shove it down your throat whether you like it or not. Awful. I tried this out when you ran that beta and it sucked, so I switched back. Where did you get the idea that your users wanted this layout as opposed the old, better one?

To add to all this idiocy you're still unable to provide enough bandwidth for me to stream a video in 360p in some cases, despite me having a 10mbit connection. There's plenty of bandwidth available to the world's largest video streaming website, surely? Sort it out. Youtube is one site I visit every day and you're slowly ruining it. Why must you continually alter things and make them worse? I'm sorry but this new homepage is awful.. I preferred the old view, it was much easer to work with, If this is meant to be an improvement.. Then I'm afraid you've failed.
I don't usually bother writing on forum's, especially on commercial sites because I expect my opinion to be overlooked. But this is different as I feel strongly about it.
I don't use youtube as a social networking site and therefore knowledge of 'friends' activity is irrelevant. I'm not interested in what my 'friends' are watching, which is the main focus of the new homepage.
I use youtube as an entertainment alternative to television. I always liked the big 'recommended for you' section which I could glance over and refresh the homepage if I wanted a different selection. Now I can't do that without scrolling through your social network of friend activity. I can't even find the 'recommended for you' link that allows me to choose videos by genre.
It is fair to say I don't know my youtube 'friends'. I'm sure we all have very different interests which is why I have no interest in their activity.
With the new layout I don't feel I have the freedom to watch videos without making a specific search.
Also, I liked my Inbox being on the homepage. Now it is similar to the facebook notification style.
If I was interested in my friend's video activity then I would choose to look at video's they have embedded on the Facebook news feed..........not Youtube's.
The old layout was considerably more customisable which is why I loved it.
Rollback or an self sorting option please. Remember, we use Youtube in a variety of ways. (none of mine having anything to do with cats or Charlie biting fingers)
I want the minimum of info from my subs. (Stacked thumbs with a digit?) and to be able to access the inbox right away.
Ugh, this new layout is hideous. I really don't need 98% of my page devoted to what my friends and subscriptions have favourited. If I CARED, I would LOOK on their favourites list. I liked the big recommended section. Actually, I think that's the only section I ever bothered with on the homepage. This new layout is horrible and inconvenient, and I can't even adjust it to make it tolerable. I popped onto the site today and spent about twenty minutes looking for the "change it back" button. What i want and what most want is one section with a list of latest videos my subscribed channels have posted. Watch a video in list and it gets removed from list. And a list of videos that is recommended to me based on what else i watch. In otherwords, exactly as the old homepage was. Sure it could use a facelift, but it offered exactly what we wanted.
The new one is utterly crap. And looking through these comments i get the feeling others feel the same way. Atleast i couldnt find a single positive comment.
So please change back to old one. Or atleast give the option to change back.

let me give you a hint youtube, even though you can access your inbox from the main screen, if people have to ask where it is because they cant find it, then its not a very good layout is it?

Gah! I hate it. One of the best things I liked about the old profile was that you could see friend requests, comments, etc, on the front page. Now, I have to go to my inbox to find anything. And my timeline thing, is just full of spam and like other users, I am having issues finding updates subs.
If the sub was updated recently enough to feature on the homepage, it is good, in that it shows all the recent uploads and if you have watched them the video is dimmed. Whilst it is nice dimming videos already watched, it doesn't excuse the fact that the inbox on the homepage was my favourite feature, and I miss it.
BTW, I had to struggle to find a good thing, and whilst it's nice it does not make up for the bastardisation of the homepage.
seriously youtube, look at the amount of negative comments that have been generated since you uploaded the new homepage. Doesn't it tell you you should change it back?

1) All I want to see is the uploaded videos from the people I've subscribed to. THAT IS ALL.
2) Even if I do filter it to see only subscriptions, I get all this other stuff about "Most Popular" videos. If I wanted to look at the most popular videos, then I would go to the separate page for that.
3) If a channel uploaded more than one video it came up separately anyway, not just the latest video you fools!
4) I can not find the Inbox button anywhere except for when I click on my username in the top right hand corner which was there anyway.
5) If I've watched one of my subscription's videos, then it should delete anyway like it used to, because if I've already watched it, I don't need to re-watch it. And if I want to, then I will search for it myself.
I didn't know youtube was a dictatorship. where is our choice to change back to the good old youtube? I mean the youtube before the grey bar came and fucked everything up.
It truly is disgusting, before it was easy to see my subscriptions now they're all over the place with irrelevant crap everywhere, it's visually very annoying, please change it back.
1. On the old page I had the option to move subscriptions, updates and recommendations around on the page. Like most people I expect, I put subscriptions at the top, and the others below, because SUBSCRIPTIONS are more important to me than the other updates or recommendations - that's why I subscribed to them! So don't mix them up. Why take away the option to keep them all on the page but grouped separately?
2. The old page easily showed up to 15 new videos from my subscriptions at once. Now I have to scroll down and click 'show more'. Why does each subscriber need a whole line to itself? Waste of space on the page, and a waste of scrolling and clicking.
3. You say that I now don't miss a video if someone uploads more than one the same day. Well why did I miss them before? That's just a bug that you should have fixed anyway. It didn't need a change of page design.
I only used to use the homepage for one thing, viewing the videos of people I have subscribed to. Previously, this was displayed in a box at the top of the page that wasn't near enough perfect for the job. Now, I see a massive list which I'm having to continuously scroll up and down, it's just pointless and annoying.
After trying the beta a while back, I immediately switched back to the old homepage. The only reason I can possibly think of for YouTube forcing this new layout upon us is to create more advertising space, proving that they are indeed corporate arses.
I'd also like to comment on 'As always, we’ll be listening and taking your feedback very seriously'. This quite clearly isn't the case, not all of us are that gullible. I remember back around April Fool's Day of last year when the first of these YouTube-ruining updates appeared. After reading many comments, no-one approved of it and a lot of people thought it was an April Fool's Joke (which sadly turned out to not be the case). The vast majority of comments on updates since then have been negative.
Just found something out for people missing the old-style subscription box. Click the either the comments/messages button below your name at the top of the homepage and then click subscriptions.
I like the new homepage, I just wish that you could customise it more, like the background, colours and themes etc. It would make the homepage more personal to users, and make it more friendly.
Just found another lame addition to the home page. Why do I have my own recently favourited videos on it. I've watched them ALREADY! If i want to show them to other people i'll look at my favourites! Its a waste of space just like the majority of the other features!

The old layout (and I mean the OLD layout, before you google guys bought youtube) was so user friendly. It contained everything I was interested in - A small 4x2 or 5x2 (can't really remember) rectangle with my subscriptions, right under it I could see my recommended videos, on the right side I could find all my inbox numbers and the graphics of the layout were much better.
Why did you have to gradually "fix" what was unbroken? Now I have a clusterfuck of videos in a fuckhuge vertical column. The subscriptions are mixed with shit that OTHER people liked. I don't care what they like! And I won't switch to the subscription-only option because I want my recommended videos! I want the old style! And instead of the fucking featured and "trending" videos I want my inbox info!
Why did you have to do this, Google? Why are you doing this to all of us?
Utterly horrible. Why is the link to a page full of recommended videos now unavailable? I don't really care about getting a bunch of my "liked" videos back in front of me, I want new material!

Will YouTube listen? Have you ever listened since the partnership programme started. It's all about trying to get views for ads not videos. Those of us who have been making videos for years are totally disenfranchised with the site.
We stick around because we helped build this site and feel a sense of community, and YT now this. Give us back our site. Bring back the classic YT look with subscriptions at the top and about 10 featured videos in a list. It virtually impossible to find new YouTubers these days as partners are thrust down our throats. When I was featured a few years ago it was great as I was introduced to so many new people. This can't happen now.
I just clicked the report a bug button at the bottom of the homepage. Because it must be a bug in the coding for the new homepage to be so crap. How can they think this makes my "PERSONAL" YouTube experience any better? I recommend everyone do the same.

Very poorly organised. I miss the old subscriptions menu and the new way to recieve reccomended videos is terrible, I want more than the 12 or so you reccomend, I used to like browsing through them to find new stuff.
I do however like that we can see what the people we subscribed to like, however there should be another page for this or an option to turn it off. All in all this is not better.
So now you realise what a mistake the new home page is, when are you going to revert to the old one? Be sensible about this for once. If people want networking, they can go to Facebook. Youtube is NOT Facebook, it's Youtube. Stop trying to be everything to everyone!
Hey guys, I see what you were trying to do, but really it was easier to browse with all the videos together. We could already browse by subscription with the old page. Also, I rarely get to the very end of all the video's I watch and having them sit around greyed out is a pain in the nuts. Oh and having to click around for the inbox ia a bit of a pain too. Maybe we'll get used to it, I dunno...
The new layout is absolute crap, too much scrolling is required and my inbox has been removed. Thanks youtube, you've done it again and gave us absolutely no choice or say in the matter :/
More clicking + more scrolling + more confusion/frustration = less watching. (Maybe way less watching!) I'm just lost with the new page. I can already tell I don't spend nearly the time on youtube as I did. Not as much "fun", seems more like work.

It's hard to believe this wasn't thrown out at the start of the design phase never mind after feedback from users. Like everyone else I have subscriptions but I like to check them when I want not having them shoved in my face as soon as I look at my homepage. It really isn't hard to gauge public feeling on this so why force it on us?
One could almost assume YouTube bosses don't know how to read nor do they understand the concept of customer feedback.

In agreement with everyone else, the new homepage is horrendous. It's frankly impractical - whereas before everything was organised by date - a logical way to organise things - instead it is organised by author?
Furthermore, since my account name is too long, it half-disappears in the All Activity/Subscription uploads box, just complimenting an already hideous design. As much as I love Youtube, and Google as a whole, you really cocked this one up.
I hope you take on the community's view of the new layout and change back the previous layout no one likes it! and also after you watch a video the video doesn't disapear from the sub box it's horrible. just a giant cluster fuck tbh

Absolutely terrible update to the home page. It's messy and just looks like a poor rip off of Facebook and Twitter. There was nothing wrong with the organized box of subscriptions that was previously at the top. As for the grayed out videos once they've been watched, why would i want that? If I've seen the video i don't want it on my front page anymore and if i want to watch it again I'll either search it or favourite it the first time i saw the video. I really hope you take into account everyone's opinion because at a glance you can plainly see it's a unanimous vote against this terrible update.
Your design team are monkeys. Change it back to the functional, logical design we used to have instead of the 'Twitter'/'Facebook' wannabe homepage that a 5 year old could have said was a bad idea. Stop faffing around and pay attention to the thousands of people who are now slating your website and the incompetence of your staff.

it's awful, cluttered, confusing, i'm subscribed to loads of users now their videos are awkward to see, i kept to the old youtube for a reason. this isn't even just hat of change, the changes are just awkward and confuse as opposed to aid.
I go away for a day and have to click 'load more' three times to see my subscriptions from 2 days ago.
The home page is a terrible shame and I feel sorry for all of the people who have made their livelyhoods from youtube as now i am sure that they get less views.

I hate this! I don't believe that most people like it, the comments and tweets and forums have confirmed this! I have actually been going on YouTube a lot less since the change, and I'm a YouTube addict. It looks horrible, ugly, messy, unorganised and old. The first thing I notice now when I go onto YouTube is the massive ad banner, and sometimes I don't even have the option to close it. You take our feedback seriously? Yeah right. Whatever happened to YOUtube?
I commented 3 days ago saying how I didn't like it.
I've tried and tried to get used to it since then, to see if it makes it faster after you know how to use it, or if it is actually more intuitive, just with a learning curve.
Youtube seriously needs to stop this - the second a popular alternative to youtube exists i'm going there, youtube really has been getting worse and worse over the recent years.

If they are to remain "our" Channels they cannot be about sponsors and advertisers interests. It has to be manageable by the user and I'm pretty damn certain I haven't requested to be informed of rape on a page accessible either by search, demographic or by the content available on my channel.
This isn't just whining about change this how "we" the people you serve advertising to, use your service.

I don't want to see reccomended videos, there is a reason why I shut that off on the old website. And now I can't. I hardly care about friend activity, so why is it on the top of the page?

ReplyDeleteI tried the NEW homepage and didnt like it...went back to my subs page...then come back and lo and behold, you just changed it to the mess of stuff that im not interested in....i dont really care what my subscriptions have favourited or whatever, i dont want someone thinking for me and what i might like to watch...most of it is c.r.a.p...and dont tell me theres a X button to press if i dont want it.

ReplyDeleteI can either see every little thing the people I subscribe to do, missing uploads becuase I'm being told about likes and favorites that frankly I dont care about. On the other hand, I can swtich to a far cleaner view, where I can be told soley about subscription uploads, but with no reccomendations or anything to actually do when there arent any.
Of course the answer is that I can spend my time switching between views, rather than watching videos I want to see, but I suspect menu hopping isnt the reason most people come to youtube.
Why cant you continue running both homepages, like you have been doing for the past month? Clearly it was possible, and giving people CHOICE must be the best way to personalise their own homepage, rather than you doing it for us.
Wait, "increased focus on videos that matter to you"? Sorry, but this is total bullshit. If you're subscribed to more than like 5 people, the new system knocks new uploads off the page in a matter of hours.

Once again YouTube, you've shown a complete misunderstanding of your user base and thrown something at them that they DON'T WANT. PLEASE, stop trying to be a social network and stick to what you're good at.

ReplyDelete1) The previous version had a neat box for newly uploaded videos from subscriptions - now that space is taken by to show one video. This was such an unnecessary change.
2) I cannot see the comments, new messages, etc. that used to help me interact with other youtubers.
3) There are only 2 options - to put it simply, there is less choice. It should go without saying that this is not an improvement.
In at nutshell, the new layout has no advantages but many, many... disadvantages.
Terrible. That's all I can say about this.

ReplyDeleteAlso I HATE the subscriptions layout. Previously it was really easy to view the new videos that had come out. Now the page goes on forever. Also if you are subscribed to one channel that uploads more than 4 videos a day, the earliest one uploaded would be knocked off the screen.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the sensible commenters - hugely messy and inefficient. I have had to unsubscribe to 5 channels to reduce the clutter and do a lot of searching to find what I want. It also reduces your feel-good factor at exploring the recommendations. You get a sense that once you subscribe to someone they can bully you and get in your face.
ReplyDeleteThe display of the new page is completely unorganised, and not user freindly at all. There is no option to return to the old layout, and there is no option to change your homepage to suit yourself. I will not get used to this. I use youtube a lot, and what the homepage has become is a hot mess. If you insist on changing your website so often, at least give us the option of how our own homepage is going to look and feel, rather than shoving that trainwreck at us and telling us to deal with it.

I loved that all the new videos uploaded by the people I subscribed to were all in 1 group together nice and clearly so I could see the new videos, whereas as now the new videos from half the people I subscribe to I cannot see for crap I don't want to see.
Please give the option of the old layout or change it back, otherwise I may end up checking out other video sites people keep advising me of.
Could this be the time when people look at other video sites like members of Myspace did when they joined Facebook? Don't say you weren't warned YouTube.

ReplyDeleteI dont want to scroll forever to find videos, so a grid was a more efficient way of laying them out than a list.
also, id like to be able to see bulletin posts, things people liked, and new subscription videos at the same time, but ONLY if they are separated into contained blocks. since new videos are priority, i choose "subscription uploads" over "all activity".
Also, on the old one, the title of the subscriptions module was a link that took you to a page where you could see loads of videos going far back, and you could choose one user and see all their recent videos. can you get to this page now? that was one of the most useful features in my opinion.
This is clearly worse than your new channels and other shitty updates you forced us into. Look above 'you'tube, can you see any good comment on this new....thing?

IT IS AWFUL! I tried it in the 'beta' stage and I didn't like it then and gave feedback in which I am sure people would have agreed with but it isn't there. YouTube sucks at making new homepages! Give me the option to change it back!

I'm only subscribed to 11 people, but a separate section for each of their uploads, their favourites, video they have liked, etc... means there are so many sections, I had to scroll down and down and down, passed so much stuff, just to see loads of information that clutters the screen and really doesn't interest me.
Other gripes : I don't need a link to my own channel, (the link under my account settings was enough) or have a section telling me what video I have uploaded, I know what videos I have uploaded - I uploaded them!!
I have never ever left a comment/feedback to something like this, but these horrible changes have forced me to share my opinions.

Ah ha ha ha ha, well as mentioned above, THE NEW HOMEPAGE SUCKS, anyone keep it after the test? I disliked the 'featured video's' as it was.
Youtube, Give us the option to switch between the old and new layouts, that is all you need to do to make this all better it cant be hard because we used to have the choice but taking it away was a big mistake, every comment here is about how the new layout sucks but you wouldn't be getting all these comments if you didn't take away the option to switch between them, bring back the option and all will be well, if you do not then you will have given your user base more reason than we ever needed to believe that you don't care about us. If you want to show that you care about us and what we like just bring back the option it is a simple as that youtube.

ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, though - I'm not saying that the remodeling would have been necessary in the first place, but well ... something being *necessary* has never been a reason for you to change stuff.
Still, I can say for myself that the damage score of this earthquake here is a minor one on my personal Richter Scale. I appreciate the "One uploader / several videos per day in a row" idea, for example. And I will try to wrap my head around the layout changes etc.
Still, I have two remarks to make.

Hm. I want you to know that I am online on YouTube every single day, and not only for 15 minutes, but for quite a few hours at least. And I have been on YouTube for three and a half years now. So ... why has not a single one of those innumerable surveys ever ever reached my inbox? How about a survey that really reaches *every* user, and offers a questionnaire that offers options to simply click on, which would make the evaluation for you a mere database query trick? That would be a survey that I could take for serious, because I'd know it really *happened*!

No, you won't. As always, you will ignore the feedback comments here, and not reply to anyone. And what is being said here will have no effect.
But ... d*uh. I wrote my comment, and will send it. It's kinda like sending out radio waves into the universe. Someone might catch them, and listen. But even if they do, they don't reply. For someone living being in the Andromeda galaxy, the enormous distance and the time factor is the most important reason for that. So ... what is your excuse, YouTube? We are right here :-)!

Every element has been exacerbated in ways that I would only have thought possible of a Conservative government running the UK. Pretty much everything you said in that blog post was a lie. Rather than dwelling on this I will address the points you think are positive about the new homepage.
1)Increased focus on videos that matter to you (subscriptions, friend's sharing, recommendations)
I disagree, the video’s that mattered to me are the new videos from my subs and now they are cluttered in between favourite videos and liked videos that I don’t want to see.
2)You can easily filter your homepage to show only the latest uploads from your subscriptions
When I click on subs only I have a cluttered list which is impossible to navigate. I have already realised I’ve missed a video from one of my subs yesterday, how many more can’t I find?
Why would I want to change from a grid where I could see all the new video’s at a glance to a list that I have to scroll up and down to see that also has video’s I have seen before on the page as well.
3)Don't miss anything; if a channel uploads four videos in a day, you’ll see all four - instead of just the latest video
As I have already stated I have missed a video which I found my using the subscription box in the top right next to my account settings. It doesn’t help to have them all on the page if they are camouflaged by a million other things.
4)Quick access to the inbox when you have new messages or comments
Really? I can’t see my inbox at all. Literally is not on the page any more.
5)Knows what you have seen (videos you've watched are grayed out)
Instead of clearing them from the page, exasperating the clustered look problem.
6)Remove any video (hover and click the "x" button)
A feature I believe already existed.
I'm with the majority here. I'm not so keen on the new Homepage. When it was Beta I tried it a few times but ended up staying with the old one as I found it more simpler. I don't like how you have to keep clicking "Load more videos" I think it would of benefitted from a Grid layout like the old one instead of this long line to scroll down

Just to add my two penny's worth IT IS SHIT! Why can I not choose what I want on my homepage? Is that just too difficult? Other sites manage it ok. I know what I've uploaded recently, don't need reminding, I also don't want what my subscriptions have posted taking up most of the page, especially ones several weeks old! Recommended videos I like, but the old default of 9 which changed when you refreshed the page was nice, now I have to click to open 9, and they don't change if I refresh!

Sorry, this is not working. In order to clear my page of clutter/spam I have had to block some accounts. It's the only way to keep sanity on this awful confusion. You are forcing us to unfriend and unsubscribe. Surely that is not what you intended!

I don't usually bother writing on forum's, especially on commercial sites because I expect my opinion to be overlooked. But this is different as I feel strongly about it.
ReplyDeleteI don't use youtube as a social networking site and therefore knowledge of 'friends' activity is irrelevant. I'm not interested in what my 'friends' are watching, which is the main focus of the new homepage.
I use youtube as an entertainment alternative to television. I always liked the big 'recommended for you' section which I could glance over and refresh the homepage if I wanted a different selection. Now I can't do that without scrolling through your social network of friend activity. I can't even find the 'recommended for you' link that allows me to choose videos by genre.
It is fair to say I don't know my youtube 'friends'. I'm sure we all have very different interests which is why I have no interest in their activity.
With the new layout I don't feel I have the freedom to watch videos without making a specific search.
Also, I liked my Inbox being on the homepage. Now it is similar to the facebook notification style.
If I was interested in my friend's video activity then I would choose to look at video's they have embedded on the Facebook news feed..........not Youtube's.
The old layout was considerably more customisable which is why I loved it.
Rollback or an self sorting option please. Remember, we use Youtube in a variety of ways. (none of mine having anything to do with cats or Charlie biting fingers)

Ugh, this new layout is hideous. I really don't need 98% of my page devoted to what my friends and subscriptions have favourited. If I CARED, I would LOOK on their favourites list. I liked the big recommended section. Actually, I think that's the only section I ever bothered with on the homepage. This new layout is horrible and inconvenient, and I can't even adjust it to make it tolerable.

What i want and what most want is one section with a list of latest videos my subscribed channels have posted. Watch a video in list and it gets removed from list.

4)get a proper beta when you have a design of something like a new homepage going and actually listen to what people are saying before even considering releasing it globally.
5)just because youtube is big doesn't means it doesn't have any more lessons to learn.

ReplyDeleteOne of the best things I liked about the old profile was that you could see friend requests, comments, etc, on the front page. Now, I have to go to my inbox to find anything. And my timeline thing, is just full of spam and like other users, I am having issues finding updates subs.
If the sub was updated recently enough to feature on the homepage, it is good, in that it shows all the recent uploads and if you have watched them the video is dimmed. Whilst it is nice dimming videos already watched, it doesn't excuse the fact that the inbox on the homepage was my favourite feature, and I miss it.
BTW, I had to struggle to find a good thing, and whilst it's nice it does not make up for the bastardisation of the homepage.
I prefer the old version.

1) All I want to see is the uploaded videos from the people I've subscribed to. THAT IS ALL.
2) Even if I do filter it to see only subscriptions, I get all this other stuff about "Most Popular" videos. If I wanted to look at the most popular videos, then I would go to the separate page for that.
3) If a channel uploaded more than one video it came up separately anyway, not just the latest video you fools!
4) I can not find the Inbox button anywhere except for when I click on my username in the top right hand corner which was there anyway.
5) If I've watched one of my subscription's videos, then it should delete anyway like it used to, because if I've already watched it, I don't need to re-watch it. And if I want to, then I will search for it myself.
6) That occurred anyway.

ReplyDelete1. On the old page I had the option to move subscriptions, updates and recommendations around on the page. Like most people I expect, I put subscriptions at the top, and the others below, because SUBSCRIPTIONS are more important to me than the other updates or recommendations - that's why I subscribed to them! So don't mix them up. Why take away the option to keep them all on the page but grouped separately?
2. The old page easily showed up to 15 new videos from my subscriptions at once. Now I have to scroll down and click 'show more'. Why does each subscriber need a whole line to itself? Waste of space on the page, and a waste of scrolling and clicking.
3. You say that I now don't miss a video if someone uploads more than one the same day. Well why did I miss them before? That's just a bug that you should have fixed anyway. It didn't need a change of page design.
I've now changed my bookmark to take me directly to my subscriptions page. It's a lot easier to look at it.

I only used to use the homepage for one thing, viewing the videos of people I have subscribed to. Previously, this was displayed in a box at the top of the page that wasn't near enough perfect for the job. Now, I see a massive list which I'm having to continuously scroll up and down, it's just pointless and annoying.
ReplyDeleteAfter trying the beta a while back, I immediately switched back to the old homepage. The only reason I can possibly think of for YouTube forcing this new layout upon us is to create more advertising space, proving that they are indeed corporate arses.
I'd also like to comment on 'As always, we’ll be listening and taking your feedback very seriously'. This quite clearly isn't the case, not all of us are that gullible. I remember back around April Fool's Day of last year when the first of these YouTube-ruining updates appeared. After reading many comments, no-one approved of it and a lot of people thought it was an April Fool's Joke (which sadly turned out to not be the case). The vast majority of comments on updates since then have been negative.
So, to sum it up in one sentence;
YouTube, you having a laugh?

ReplyDeleteIt contained everything I was interested in - A small 4x2 or 5x2 (can't really remember) rectangle with my subscriptions, right under it I could see my recommended videos, on the right side I could find all my inbox numbers and the graphics of the layout were much better.
Why did you have to gradually "fix" what was unbroken? Now I have a clusterfuck of videos in a fuckhuge vertical column. The subscriptions are mixed with shit that OTHER people liked. I don't care what they like! And I won't switch to the subscription-only option because I want my recommended videos! I want the old style! And instead of the fucking featured and "trending" videos I want my inbox info!

Will YouTube listen? Have you ever listened since the partnership programme started. It's all about trying to get views for ads not videos. Those of us who have been making videos for years are totally disenfranchised with the site.
ReplyDeleteWe stick around because we helped build this site and feel a sense of community, and YT now this. Give us back our site. Bring back the classic YT look with subscriptions at the top and about 10 featured videos in a list. It virtually impossible to find new YouTubers these days as partners are thrust down our throats. When I was featured a few years ago it was great as I was introduced to so many new people. This can't happen now.

ReplyDeleteI just clicked the report a bug button at the bottom of the homepage. Because it must be a bug in the coding for the new homepage to be so crap. How can they think this makes my "PERSONAL" YouTube experience any better? I recommend everyone do the same.
ReplyDeleteEverytime i log in to youtube hoping they changed it back or at least a reply from them recognizing that we do not like it. But nothing!!
Well hopefully they will lisen and change it back.
Wow what a mess, you should have kept the layout as it was and also kept the star rating system. God! i could go on for hours ranting about how **** youtube has become over the past few years.

This is sooooo horrible compared to the old Youtube, it makes finding videos from your subscriptions sooo confusing and i hate it, please listen to everyone elses comments and mine and please change it back !!!!!

I hate the new homepage. I see nothing but negative reaction to it! Please change it back. I liked being able to see more 'recommended' videos. This new home page is AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Obviously users don't like it. WHAT IS THE REAL REASON IT HAS BEEN CHANGED LIKE THIS!?
ReplyDeleteVery poorly organised. I miss the old subscriptions menu and the new way to recieve reccomended videos is terrible, I want more than the 12 or so you reccomend, I used to like browsing through them to find new stuff.
ReplyDeleteI do however like that we can see what the people we subscribed to like, however there should be another page for this or an option to turn it off. All in all this is not better.

So now you realise what a mistake the new home page is, when are you going to revert to the old one? Be sensible about this for once. If people want networking, they can go to Facebook. Youtube is NOT Facebook, it's Youtube. Stop trying to be everything to everyone!
ReplyDeleteHey guys, I see what you were trying to do, but really it was easier to browse with all the videos together. We could already browse by subscription with the old page. Also, I rarely get to the very end of all the video's I watch and having them sit around greyed out is a pain in the nuts. Oh and having to click around for the inbox ia a bit of a pain too. Maybe we'll get used to it, I dunno...

More clicking + more scrolling + more confusion/frustration = less watching. (Maybe way less watching!) I'm just lost with the new page. I can already tell I don't spend nearly the time on youtube as I did. Not as much "fun", seems more like work.

It's hard to believe this wasn't thrown out at the start of the design phase never mind after feedback from users. Like everyone else I have subscriptions but I like to check them when I want not having them shoved in my face as soon as I look at my homepage. It really isn't hard to gauge public feeling on this so why force it on us?

I hope you take on the community's view of the new layout and change back the previous layout no one likes it! and also after you watch a video the video doesn't disapear from the sub box it's horrible. just a giant cluster fuck tbh

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely terrible update to the home page. It's messy and just looks like a poor rip off of Facebook and Twitter. There was nothing wrong with the organized box of subscriptions that was previously at the top. As for the grayed out videos once they've been watched, why would i want that? If I've seen the video i don't want it on my front page anymore and if i want to watch it again I'll either search it or favourite it the first time i saw the video. I really hope you take into account everyone's opinion because at a glance you can plainly see it's a unanimous vote against this terrible update.

it's awful, cluttered, confusing, i'm subscribed to loads of users now their videos are awkward to see, i kept to the old youtube for a reason. this isn't even just hat of change, the changes are just awkward and confuse as opposed to aid.

I have actually been going on YouTube a lot less since the change, and I'm a YouTube addict. It looks horrible, ugly, messy, unorganised and old. The first thing I notice now when I go onto YouTube is the massive ad banner, and sometimes I don't even have the option to close it. You take our feedback seriously? Yeah right. Whatever happened to YOUtube?

I work with young people and "need" to be able to control the content on my home page.
If they are to remain "our" Channels they cannot be about sponsors and advertisers interests. It has to be manageable by the user and I'm pretty damn certain I haven't requested to be informed of rape on a page accessible either by search, demographic or by the content available on my channel.
This isn't just whining about change this how "we" the people you serve advertising to, use your service.
