Premium Music Videos Return To YouTube

We work hard to make YouTube a place where existing fans and new audiences can discover their favourite content, whatever it might be. For the past few months, while discussions were ongoing with collection society PRS for Music, YouTube users in the UK have been restricted from viewing premium music videos on the site.
Today we are pleased to announce that an agreement for a licence has been reached and both PRS for Music and YouTube are happy that the negotiations resulted in a mutually acceptable deal. As a result of the new agreement, premium music videos in the UK are coming back to YouTube – this is good for songwriters and composers, music fans and YouTube.
In the coming days, premium music videos will begin to come back to YouTube in the UK and we intend to celebrate with a series of guest editorships from some of the foremost artists and magazine shows on the site. We’ll have to wait for the appropriate content to go live before we can share more, so stay tuned.

when i read the title, i thaught there was a paid version of youtube. LOL. im am so glad that they are coming back( on my videos they are already back) thank you youtube. i will click on adverts just because of this. DeleteHold on a minute! I still can not watch Michael Jackson, Universal Music Group,Capitol Music Group,Emi records, Sony music,Sony BMG and Legacy,and Weird Al Youtube channels,as they are still blocking UK fans. So it's NOT quite true that premium music videos are back!!

ReplyDeleteand I'm sure there will be stuff we can never see on youtube either - I seem to recall a distinct lack of beatles stuff on there
So what happens to all the videos with a bit of background music which were muted and then had a horrible youtube approved audio overlaid.

ReplyDeleteGlad to see them back, but it's too late you have already lost a vaulable audience and they are not going to come back, 1 right doesn't correct a load of wrongs.
ReplyDeleteSorry to bring negativity here but you also need to concentrate on making youtube better (breaking off from google would be a start), listen to what the youtube comunity has to say before you implement any changes.

Yes, I'd like to know if Audio-Swapped videos will have the original soundtracks restored. I think machinima videos should fall under 'fair use' anyway - though since they're not *quite* parodies it's difficult to know how to place them, and it's tedious trying to find ways to contact labels individually for permission to use the tracks. It's really something that should happen automatically - there's clearly such a gulf between just uploading a home-taped MTV video and carefully making your own game parody that it's absurd we have to go through this and being branded a thief to do so.
